Queer Asynchronies at United Contemporary Gallery

“Working fluidly across painting, animation, and drawing, Dylan Glynn’s practice consists of a
visual language shaped by intuition, spontaneity, and emotional immediacy. He creates images
that linger between memory and feeling, documenting moments of rupture, connection, loss,
and renewal as ongoing processes of becoming. Created as part of the artist’s daily practice,
Glynn’s watercolours distill the complexities of lived experience through friendships, heartbreak,
grief, new beginnings, self-actualization, and transformation.
These visual journals present an opportunity for reflection, exploration, and processing through
images rather than words. Works such as Ambiguation mark a major point of rupture and grief
in Glynn’s life with the passing of his mother, while The Muck and Twigs meditate on the
devastation and grief experienced at the end of relationships. The Apartments and Seven
Sisters depict moments of intimacy and kinship with chosen family often found by queer people
later in life. Works such as Your Gaze and Raving speak to the timeless queer utopia that can
be found on the dancefloor, through infinite possibility for connection through fleeting moments.
Installed side by side in a continuous line, the watercolours form a visual timeline of the artist’s
daily life. Rather than unfolding as a singular narrative, however, they reveal queer experience
as layered and recursive, something continually shaped through relation, reflection, and change.”
